YouTube is a great, educational tool. Yes, it contains some inappropriate and inaccurate videos. However, If you are patient, there are lots of valuable videos too.

There are several reasons why it is important to extract the videos from YouTube and save them on your computer.
  • You don't need to jump through the authentication "hoops" while at school.
  • You don't have to worry about the video being unavailable in the future.
  • You don't have to worry about network connectivity.
  • You can easily archive videos with other topic documents/files right on your own computer.
  • You don't have to worry about what Youtube "suggests" when a student is viewing the video you want them to see.
  • Youtube is a very "busy" site. By extracting videos, students are not distracted by all of the other items on the page.
  • Extracted videos can be shown to your students from your computer using a projector.
  • Extracted videos can be inserted into other Apple products. (Keynote, iWeb, GarageBand, etc.)
  • Extracted videos (MP4) can easily be uploaded to your Moodle, Jabber WIKI, or Wikispaces site where students will have access in and out of school.
